If you are interested in HF radio
and some radio amateur topics, you may find the FT8
log book interesting. FT8 is a digital mode developed by radio
amateurs in the US and allows the reception of very weak radio
signals. Very weak signals would be signals well below the
background noise you hear when tuned to HF / short wave frequencies.
Focussing on a mimimal bandwidth of some few Hz, the signal is still
stronger than the surrounding noise that a radio would receive
normally using a standard bandwidth of 2.4 kHz. In short, with a
power of 75 watt, what I use for long distance calls, and a well
tuned antenna, I can get around the world. Behind this link is an
application written in python which reads the log of the FT8
software (WSJTX) and writes the log records into a database. These
log records are displayed on this site mixed with information
retrieved from the official QRZ database which contains Ham radio
operator information and a map, I download from google maps based on
the location coordiantes of the radio amateur.

        Besides radio amateur activities I
take every opportunity to go away from the city and stay some time
in isolation from modern civilisation. Here
            some pictures from interesting places.
